Ono Island is a volcanic island that covers about 30 square kilometers. It is located northeast of Kadavu Island and is surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef. The island is domestic to seven villages: Naqara, Nabouwalu, Buliya, Dravuni, Vabea, Waisomo, and Narikoso.
Ono Island is infamous for the 1836 bloodbath of ten humans aboard an American delivery. Chief Ro Veidovi became accused of orchestrating the massacre. He was taken to the USA for trial but died just hours after his arrival. Artifacts amassed during the excursion to seize Ro Veidovi may be regarded at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
