The island of Hatoma is located approximately 6 kilometers off the northern coast of Iriomote Island, accessible via ferry. With an area of less than 1 rectangular kilometer, the island is sparsely populated and remains untouched by massive-scale development or pollutants. Apart from small settlements near the harbor, maximum of the island is protected via lush forests.
Hatoma Nakamui, status at an elevation of 33.8 meters which is the highest factor on the island. At its summit lies a stone-built observatory and the Hatoma Island Lighthouse. This yet-to-be exploited as a traveler destination small island possesses a unique rhythm of time, promising moments of tranquil restoration.

1. Village (集落)
Around half of the homes in the village are traditional single-story homes with square roofs, many embellished with protecting amulets. Due to the common typhoons inside the area, Fukugi trees also are planted for wind protection. The stone partitions surrounding the houses are traditional coral stone walls. Post-warfare, there had been about 500 to 600 citizens, however, now handiest around 50 people are living right here.
2. Nakadori Forest/Kumejima Island Lighthouse ( 鳩間中森・鳩間島灯台)
Located on a small hill near the middle of Hatoma Island, this spot offers panoramic perspectives of the azure sea and the majestic Iriomote Island, believed to be the foundation for the folk music "Kujukushima." Following a direction through the forest, one reaches the lighthouse, accompanied by a statement tower. The call "Nakadori" stems from the island's three forests, with this one situated in their midst.
3. Island Beach (島仲浜)
This seashore at the northern aspect of Hatoma Island is a famous snorkeling spot due to its proximity to the reefs.
4. Married Couple Rocks (夫婦岩)
To the northwest of the road lies the "Married Couple Rocks," believed to symbolize harmonious marriage.
Long ago, when this rock was surrounded by fields, the couple tending to it had a very close relationship, hence earning the name "Couple's Rock." It is a truly serene spot.
5. Tachihara Beach and Samurai Residences Site (立原浜・武士家跡)
This small beach at the northwest tip of Hatoma Island, though nestled within the reefs and not suitable for swimming or snorkeling due to its size, makes for a perfect contemplative shore.
Surrounding the beach are the remains of a samurai residence and stone piles. The views here are exquisite, offering a gentle sea breeze blowing onto the shore. A highly recommended place for unwinding.
6. Yarabu Beach (屋良浜)
Located on the west coast of Hatoma Island, Yarabu Beach is the largest natural beach on the island.
With shallow waters and calm waves, it is ideal for swimming. As the sun sets, one can witness a beautiful sunset, making it a renowned spot for sunset viewing.
7. Outer Wakanohama and Funabarahama (外若浜・船原浜)
Outer Wakanohama and Funabarahama are both beaches located on the northeast side of the island. These are small beaches, perfect for relaxation.
8. Maehama Beach (前の浜)
Maehama Beach is situated in the southern part of Hatoma Island, just a 3-minute walk from Hatoma Port, making it very convenient for sightseeing tours.
Surrounded by breakwaters, Maehama Beach offers calm waves and shallow waters, making it a popular choice for families with children.
